When your DPF needs a forced regeneration

We check whether a forced regen alone will fix it, or whether the filter needs a full clean.

Interrupted regen

A regen cycle keeps starting on short journeys but never gets the chance to finish.

Mostly short journeys

Your car rarely gets a long enough run for a passive regen to happen on its own.

Regen light staying on

The dashboard regen indicator stays lit well after you'd expect it to clear.

Won't regen at all

The car has stopped attempting a regeneration, even on a longer drive.

What happens during a forced regeneration

We connect diagnostic equipment and run a controlled regeneration cycle, burning off the trapped soot at the temperature it needs. It's usually quicker than waiting for a passive regen, and we can do it wherever your car already is.

Regen not working? We check for a clean first

If the filter's too blocked for a regen to clear it, forcing one repeatedly won't fix the problem and can just waste your time. We check the filter's actual condition before recommending which one you need.

How it works

We check the filter

We assess the DPF's actual condition before deciding on a regen or a clean.

We run the cycle

We connect diagnostic equipment and force a controlled regeneration on site.

We confirm the fix

We test the car and confirm the regen light's cleared before we leave.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between DPF cleaning and regeneration?
Regeneration burns off trapped soot using heat. Cleaning is a deeper physical or chemical clean for a filter too clogged for regeneration alone. We check which one your car needs before quoting.
Why does my regen keep failing?
Usually because the journey's too short, or the filter is more blocked than a regen alone can clear. We diagnose the actual cause rather than just running the cycle again.
Can I force a regen myself?
Some cars let you trigger one from the dashboard, but it only works if the filter isn't too clogged. If it's failed more than once, it's worth getting it checked properly.
How long does a forced regeneration take?
Most take under an hour, done on your driveway or in your car park while you get on with your day.
Is regular short-journey driving bad for my DPF?
It can be. Short runs often don't get hot enough for a passive regen to happen naturally, which is why forced regens tend to come up more often for mostly-local drivers.
Will a forced regeneration damage my engine?
No. It's a controlled process using the equipment your car's designed to work with, carried out within the manufacturer's normal regen parameters.
